Tell us about yourself. What is the inspiration? How did you refine your style? And the inspiration for your brand?
I am a 20 year old New Yorker studying fashion while doing photography and styling on the side! I absolutely love living in New York and it is one of my main sources of inspiration. Of course fashion magazines, Tumblr, and Pinterest are also great platforms for inspiration. There are so many outlets you can use, the possibilities are honestly endless. Refining my style took a While! I've been through literally every phase in the book...until now I find that styling neutrals simply has always been my go-to. I've honed in on that and also love that sort of androgynous look with oversized blazers, Levi's, white t-shirts. That has come sort of the inspiration for my 'brand' and I just always love putting together something simple yet creative and hopefully artistic.
What does a day in the life look like for you Christie?
Honestly, it can be a toss up! On most days, I start off with class in the morning, then homework. Once school work is done, I'll work on a blogpost, go downtown to photograph with a friend, or create posts in my apartment. Hours are spent editing, writing, answering emails, but I love it. Around dinner time I'll see my boyfriend, Adam, or cook dinner, do a face mask, and have a night to myself. Sometimes studying and tea is involved. On free days, I'll go to meetings or showrooms, or hang out with friends I haven't seen. Weekends I love going out to eat, walking around Soho, and just spending time with my man.
Who does all your creative direction and photography? You, we assume? Tell me how you get the perfect IG image?
Yes, I do! I wish I had another creative mind alongside of me, but maybe in the future! Because I am so particular with my images, it can be tough sometimes. I will go out with a friend and we will shoot looks together, but the outfits and looks are always done by me. Sometimes I'll photograph by myself in my apartment which means, yup, embarrassingly putting a timer on a stand and posing until I get the perfect shot. It's a good time.
How important do you feel it is to have a visually cohesive brand?
I think that it has definitely become more important in today's society, because people just love things that are nice to look at, as weird as that sounds. Because of Instagram, we love going to 'Instagrammable' places or shopping at stores that have their certain aesthetic. I like it, though, because it has become more about an experience rather than just a product. I love it when I can relate to and fall in love with a store's branding because it makes you feel connected to it.
What are your favorite wardrobe pieces, currently or from all time? What are your favorite pieces in our latest collection for Haati Chai?
Right now I am truly in love with oversized blazers, as well as vintage ReDone jeans, Manolo Blahnik's, and white, structured tops (think Jacquemus). I've always been a trouser sort of gal, too. My favorite pieces from the collection are Nour Ring, Ric Diamond Neckpiece, and the Lyon Earrings.
What is next for you?
I want to start being more of a business woman, which I guess could mean anything, but I don't want to give too much away...
Is there something you would like to share about yourself or your brand that we did not ask? If so what? Any tips for an someone who is looking to build a cohesive brand for themselves?
I would just say to anyone that wants to start their own thing, whether it be a blog, website, or business, just go for it. It takes time, commitment, and hard work, but if you're doing something you love, it will be so rewarding. And building a cohesive brand is key. Be unique and create your own sort of brand, whatever it may be, and stick with it!
